01

Start with the morning

Who leaves first, where are they going and what needs doing on the way? Map the sequence from waking up to starting work or school. Include getting ready, the walk from the door and any connections. Similar distances on a map can produce very different daily routines.

02

Add the evening and an awkward day

Check the return from activities, grocery shopping and a day without a car. For a coastal home, inspect windows and exposed elements; for a house with land, consider the maintenance workload. These are questions about an individual property, not automatic verdicts on an entire neighbourhood.

03

Choose a manageable compromise

Divide criteria into essential, desirable and negotiable. For each address, separate observed facts from untested assumptions. If a garden needs time your family does not have, its beauty does not remove that task. A good choice supports your routine throughout the year, beyond the day of the viewing.
